MALL LAS ARENAS, Barcelona
Las Arenas de Barcelona is a shopping and leisure complex located in the iconic Plaça Espanya. The building, of great historical and symbolic value, was originally a bullring inaugurated in 1900. After decades of intermittent use and eventual abandonment, its transformation was promoted, culminating in March 2011 with its reopening as a shopping center.
The rehabilitation and conversion project was led by British architect Richard Rogers along with Alonso Balaguer Arquitectos Asociados. The main challenge was to preserve the original façade while constructing a completely new structure inside.
